In 1973, Merl Yutzy and Dan English started a landscape maintenance service in Saint Petersburg.

As their ability to maintain trees grew, so did the demand for the tree service portion of their business, and Y & E Tree Service was born in 1979. Though the demand for tree services continued to grow, Mr. English decided to take another career direction.

In 1984, Merl Yutzy changed the name of the company to Yutzy & Sons Tree Service Inc. to include his sons in the Family business.

For more than two decades, he grew the company and hired employees.

By 2003, the company had grown to include three divisions: Management, Sales, Production.

It was at this point that Merl Yutzy decided to branch OFF and specialize in stump grinding services, and in 2004, Karl Yutzy purchased the company, changing the name to Yutzy Tree Service Inc.

In the years from 2004 to date, Yutzy Tree Service has grown From 6 employees, to 25 employees.

The company is made up of two offices with staff, two sales teams, a Full fabrication, maintenance and repair department, as well as three production crews.

At Yutzy Tree Service, a certified International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) arborist supervises each of our crews.

The ISA has served the tree care industry for nearly 100 years as a scientific and educational organization.

ISA was Founded in 1924 when members of the Connecticut Tree Protective Association convened a meeting that would plant the seed of the organization that would ultimately revolutionize the tree care industry.

It was this gathering that was to become the first of many annual conferences of the organization that has evolved into today’s modern ISA.

ISA continues to be a dynamic medium through which arborists around the world share their experience and knowledge for the benefit of society.

ISA is aligned on many fronts with other green organizations and is working hard to foster a better understanding of trees and tree care through research and the education of professionals as well as global efforts to inform tree care consumers.

Our arborists have gone through rigorous training with years of experience making them experts on tree care, tree health, invasive species and tree removal.

Their certificates require continuing education classes for their annual renewal. Our arborists, and crews all receive extensive safety training in working with trees either trimming or removing them.

In 1996, the State of Florida passed the Mangrove Trimming and Preservation Act provided the regulations For trimming and altering mangroves on private and public property.

The Mangrove is a protected species in Florida and improper cutting can carry large fines. Many trimming activities can be performed under an exemption from permitting requirements provided the trimming is supervised or conducted by a professional mangrove trimmer.

Born in the St. Petersburg, Gulfport area, and a Boca Ciega High School graduate. He was the youngest of seven children growing-up in sunny Florida with its diverse trees and plant life. As a proud father of three sons and three grandsons Tim continues to be actively involved in the area.

Tim started working in the tree industry in 1985 For Florida Power and Light (FPL) trimming trees on the power lines. He became a certified arborist and a member of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) in 1998 with his continued passion of working outdoors in the tree industry. That year he also became a Certified Mangrove Specialist and maintains a current CPR certification.

LIFE OF AN ARBORIST

As an arborist my primary goal is to save the trees, my biggest challenge is when I’m called out to assess a trees health and I have to inform the homeowner that the tree will need to be removed. In many cases the homeowner purchased the house because of the trees.

In other instances, a family member planted the tree and it has great sentimental value to the owner.

As an ISA certified arborist, I get the most satisfaction by; Working outdoors with trees; Educating our employees and clients on the benefits of healthy trees; Setting the highest standard For our industry in knowledge and professionalism; The pride of having two of my sons in the industry, one of which is also a ISA certified arborist; and perhaps my most personal reason of making an honest living doing what love.

Kristine was raised in the South Pinellas area graduating from Boca Ciega High school. She attended St. Petersburg College in 2003 to study Crime Scene Technology. In 2016 Kristine became an ISA Certified Arborist, and a Certified Mangrove Specialist. Kristine maintains memberships in both the International Society of Arboriculture and the International Aroid Society. In 201 7, Kristine became a Florida Certified Horticulture Professional through Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscaper Association (FNGLA).

She attends classes and seminars whenever possible, learning more about our industry as well as staying informed on the types of pathogens that can cause various diseases amongst the trees and plants that we care for.

LIFE of AN ARBORIST

There are many challenges presented to me as a Certified Arborist. Clients regularly request my assistance in identifying the species of trees on their property.

At times, it can be a challenge, as our area is host to many native species, but also many non-native species, which require research to identify them properly.

Though it is a challenge, I find it rewarding to assist our clients in updating their knowledge base as to species identification, as well as the benefits each species.

Raised in Seattle, Washington, Rhys holds both a Bachelors degree in Philosophy from the University of Washington and a Master of Science degree in Sport Science From the University of Memphis. Following his passion for the outdoors and arboriculture Rhys became an ISA Certified Arborist in 2009.

Rhys started working For Yutzy Tree Service in 2014 and really enjoys working with our clients to get the professional level of service they require which allows them to retain the peace-of-mind that seldom is associated with
purchasing arboricultural services or hiring companies in our industry.

The greatest challenge I face as an Arborist is communication. As an Arborist, it is my responsibility to ensure that the customers as well as my work crew are aware of the scope of work. Without effective communication with the client and our work crew, confusion ensues and will certainly cause dissatisfaction — either with our work or with our ability to shape expectations to match actual outcomes.

The most satisfying part of my job is when a big, complicated quote turns into a quality job with complete satisfaction For the customer as well as the work crew.
